Timeless and yet contemporary; the elegant solid wood chair 454 was specially produced for the Zurich Kronenhalle restaurant by a furniture craftsman’s workshop. The famous restaurant has long been a meeting place for artists, where personalities like Gottfried Keller, Arnold Böcklin, Max Frisch, Friedrich Dürrenmatt or James Joyce mixed. The Swiss designer and architect Stefan Zwicky has now redesigned the chair and lent it even greater comfort with the addition of armrests and seat upholstery. The 454 model convinces in both the contract and private markets with its materials diversity, stability and an elegant-classic form.

The exceptional aesthetics of the the 454 programme lies in the marriage of both sleek design and attractive details like the rail-adorned back and the ergonomically designed recessed area in the seat. The harmonious appearance of the chair is further underlined by the application of premium materials typical of Thonet: the chair is available in stained solid wood in beech, maple, walnut, black cherry or oak. The chair with optional seat upholstery can be suited to the respective furnishing environment. The armrest helps to bring about all round relaxed seating at the table. The 454 can be utilised in restaurants and in private dining rooms.
