Patricia Urquiola´s proposal is absolutely innovative, too: Lowland may be defined a geoform, it recalls the large stepping stones of a river joint together by an imaginative path that takes you safely to the other side. A series of upholstered objects meant for interiors featuring a very strong influence of design.
A product for contemporary interiors where the traditional concepts of constituting elements have been willingly ignored. Lowland means that it is a combination of the normal concept of a sofa and a new idea for furniture modules: that mustn´t be considered single elements of the sofa that compose angular solutions, etc. We are proposing simple and essential elements such as the seat, back and arm rests; the seats are elementary shapes, large masses conceived in different dimensions, that may be placed next to each other to create a sofa or according to one´s wishes; the back completes or rejoins the elements: two at a time, that may be interrupted half way through or completely composed.
The arm rests are strong and impressive elements that are placed on the floor and bend upwards towards the seat: formally defined and complex, these elements determine the style and the personality and conclude the composition. No remakes of sofas that have already been proposed, a seat modularity that features a very rigorous formal solution. The name of the project, instead recalls past memories: from Bob Dylan´s song; the country-side in the sad expressive eyes of the Lowland girl.
Collection Lowland has completely loose covers after taking off arm-backrest and is not available with fabrics with patternrepeats. Wooden frame covered with stress-resistant polyurethane foam at varied densities and polyester fiber. Feet in stainless steel. Table top in M.D.F. lacquered white or black.
