True to its roots, CH28 will be re-launched in a pure wood, un-upholstered combination of two contrasting woods. The rounded armrests, back and seat are made of American walnut, while the legs are made of European oak. According to Knud Erik Hansen, Managing Director of Carl Hansen & Son, this new combination is a respectful update and a tribute to the spirit of Hans J. Wegner.
“The combination of two wood types is seen in a number of Wegner’s chairs. Back in the 1950’s, it was common to use teak together with other woods – both for the look and in order to “stretch†the more expensive teak. But since all of our wood of course must come from renewable forest resources, Carl Hansen have not used teak for many years. We looked long and hard for the right replacement, and we think American walnut solves the challenge in a most elegant way.â€
