Already in 1951, as part of a building project, in Italy, he developed a chair for a restaurant, "The BASKET".
This lightweight stacking chair with a steel frame and ergonomic seat and backrest in hand-woven rattan was ideal for use both in and outdoors. The BASKET was a hit, not only in Italy but in Switzerland, Germany and was a great success in the USA.
The chair is not only comfortable, but also allows the body to breathe, even in the hottest of summers. Gian Franco Legler received the Good Design Award for the BASKET from the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York in 1953.
