Minimalist form, harmonic proportions and flowing lines " these are the hallmarks of the LS 22 couch designed by Anton Lorenz. The 1931 design is clearly located within the daybed and chaise longue tradition and represents a harmonious synthesis of the clarity and functionality characteristic of late 1920s classic tubular steel design with the urbane modern style of living of the early 1930s. The couch is further characterised by a particularly marked level of springy comfort resulting from the broad span of the frame and the strap covering. Thonet is now once again including this classic piece by Anton Lorenz in its tubular steel furniture collection.
Transparency and elegance: the couch is transparent in appearance. The bent tubular steel of the headpiece flows seamlessly into the couch surface and on to the foot piece, thus creating an impression of floating. This skilful curving is characteristic of the elegant solitaire. The Hungarian Anton Lorenz developed this couch following his close contact with designers such as Marcel Breuer and the Luckhardt brothers. It was initially produced by his own company, Desta (German Tubular Steel Furniture), in a version with iron thread strap covering, but was taken over for production purposes by Thonet just one year later. This re-edition is intended both for use in living rooms and gardens, as well as in health and beauty spas or as an office daybed.
Details, material, dimensions: the LS 22 couch is produced with a finely polished or ground stainless steel frame and is provided with a couch surface made of weatherproof meshed straps. This version is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Upholstered padding with a fabric or leather cover can be added to the meshed surface (LS 22 P). The LS 22 couch has an unusually large span and is 210 cm long and 75 cm broad.
