Coming in black, white or natural shades, the seat and armchair, Leatherworks, stem from the Campana brothers’ investigation into the intricacies of leather and hide preparation. Like geographic concretions, Leatherworks are the result of a gradual onlay process. They emerge from an apparently haphazard jumble of alligator and reptilian printed leather of varying grain size. A bit like a cartoon character left standing in tattered clothes after an explosion!

Once again the Campana brothers have gone out on a limb, deliberately shifting the aesthetics of taste towards the "distasteful". As critic Mario Perniola puts it, (“Disgusti”, Costa&Nolan, Genoa, 1998) they actively seek to create intensity of reaction. Theirs is not so much a concern for raising awareness at the conscious level as touching deep-rooted sensitivities - even raw nerves. They delight in provoking an almost morbid reaction, an immediate gut response that short-circuits the brain.

Imperfect, ragged, apparently artless, Leatherworks conceals outstanding craftsmanship of assembly, stitching, and trimming. Edra’s manufacturing system has surpassed itself, masterfully retaining Leatherworks’ essentially random composition. The scaly, mimetic upholstery resembles animals in the process of sloughing their skins – a no-holes-barred feature that makes this latest Campana creation a landmark on the contemporary design scene.
